What's New - 2000
HARDLINES WINS BIA AWARDHardlines Design Company received the award for "Best Architectural Design" by the Building Industry Association (BIA) for the renovation of 93 East New England Avenue in Worthington, Ohio. The project involved a total renovation of an existing 1830s farmhouse and the construction of a new two-story addition to the rear. The 1000 s.f. addition featured a Family Room with half-bath, laundry, and mudroom on the first floor, with a Master Bedroom, Master Bath and walk-in Closet on the second. The project also contained three new porches and a brick patio in the rear. The renovation consisted of a completely new kitchen, built-in cabinets in the study, new windows, new exterior siding, and new electrical system. The existing siding was stripped, revealing the post and beam construction underneath. Insulation and new wiring was added from the outside, thus with minimal disturbance to the interior plaster walls. HDC worked with Georgetown Builders, Inc. to integrate period details such as a Rumford fireplace, tongue-and-groove porch ceiling, and custom interior moldings to match the original. This project also received Best of Show in the 2000 Showcase of Remodeled Homes and the Old Worthington Merit Award.

Hardlines Successfully Completes the Very First Infrastructure Condition Survey for the Air Force! The ICS is a comprehensive management tool that identifies and prioritizes capital improvement needs for government and institutional facilities. Our work addressed their buildings, utility systems, roads, and airfield operations. According to Donald Durst, project architect, "This is an incredible planning tool for all the decision makers because all the information they could possibly need is right there and organized for quick and easy access." We completed the work in just six months! HDC will soon be starting on six new ICS studies for facilities located across the country. |

HDC, who was awarded a three-year, worldwide, architectural and engineering contract from Air Force Materiel Command, completed the very first Infrastructure Condition Survey (ICS) at Brooks Air Force Base located in San Antonio, Texas. This survey was the pilot ICS project under the Air Force's Facility Infrastructure Program.
This spring, Hardlines moved into their newly renovated office. The new facility, complete with an archaeological laboratory, library, architectural design study, and conference room, nearly triples the size of their previous location.
Construction has started on HDC's design for a new office and conference center for the John Glenn Institute of Public Policy and Management located in Stillman Hall on the Ohio State University campus. The design challenge, according to architect Charissa Wang, was integrating 10 historic WPA wall murals into the design. Her unique solution uses full-length glass partition walls.
