Phase I Archaeological Surveys

Phase I surveys are usually conducted as part of compliance with Sections 110 and 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966. Hardlines Design Company (HDC) has performed a number of Phase I projects for several Federal and State agencies.

Each Phase I Reconnaissance project can include:

  • Literature Reviews
  • Intensive Pedestrian Surface Collection
  • Shovel Test Unit Excavations
  • Real time Mapping with Penmap Software and Pentax R-125N Total Station
  • Deep Testing where necessary

HDC archaeologists are able to conduct efficient surveys in diverse environments and recover sufficient data to recommend whether further testing is needed. Phase I survey reports are always produced with an eye for detail and a thorough treatment of any and all resources encountered, and HDC has a consistent record of meeting project deadlines.
