Mapping
Our surveyors use the latest in mapping technology. At all stages of archaeological investigation, Hardlines Design Company (HDC) has the ability to accurately--and quickly--record and display the project boundaries, areas of investigation and location of cultural remains.
This work is accomplished through the use and integration of three separate technologies:
- A Pentax R-125N Total Mapping Station is used to collect horizontal and vertical location data of project attributes, including landscape topography.
- Penmap 4.0 software, running on a Fujitsu Pen Tablet, allows our surveyors to display project-specific mapping information on site for real-time evaluation.
- Geographical Information Systems (GIS) mapping technology is employed on all projects in order to integrate project data with real-world coordinates and relate it to the client's individual needs.
- HDC employs a Trimble GeoexplorerXT handheld Global Positioning System (GPS) running ArcPad to enhance locational data collection in the field. This GPS is fully integrated into our GIS data collection protocols.
HDC archaeologists are active members of the Society for Historical Archaeology (SHA). Please see the link below for more information on this organization.
