Davis-Shai Community Center Residential Architecture, Heath, Ohio

Davis-Shai Community Center
The Davis-Shai Community Center project featured the adaptive reuse of a 1860s residence into a community center for the City of Heath with second floor city offices. HDC was originally contracted to conduct a facilities assessment, document the facility, and produce a Program of Requirements and an Implementation Master Plan for the facility. The Plan was successfully used to obtain half a million dollars in state funding. The house was moved from its original location to a 12-acre City-owned plot of land, and will form the centerpiece of new downtown development.

The project included the restoration of the original house including exterior masonry repair and repointing, the creation of a new basement workshop space, and the integration of compatible new additions, including a new egress stair and elevator utilizing steel-frame construction. This successful project generated another half million dollars in donations after construction started, which was used for furnishings, updated finishes, sitework, and landscaping.
